About This Place

Located in the heart of Colebrook, New Hampshire, Black Bear Tavern is a vibrant and multifaceted destination that offers much more than your typical American restaurant. This dynamic establishment uniquely combines a warm, inviting tavern atmosphere with a cozy inn and a well-equipped RV park, making it a go-to spot for both locals and travelers alike. Whether you're stopping by for a hearty meal, a cold drink, or an overnight stay, Black Bear Tavern delivers an experience that feels authentically New England, rich with charm and comforting familiarity.

At its core, Black Bear Tavern excels as a restaurant and sports bar, serving up a wide-ranging menu that captures classic American flavors with a distinct twist. The culinary offerings reflect a deep respect for quality ingredients and bold flavors, making every bite memorable. Standouts like the Whiskey Burger and BBQ Maple Burger showcase perfectly grilled patties layered with inventive toppings, while the Maple Glazed Salmon offers an elegant balance of sweetness and savory, hinting at the region’s maple syrup heritage.

The menu pulses with variety and creativity. From classic pub staples like Chicken Wings and the crispy Fishwitch and Fries to refined dishes such as the Blackened Ahi Tuna Salad and Surf and Turf, there’s truly something for every palate. The Short Ribs, slow-cooked to tender perfection and served alongside creamy garlic mashed potatoes, feel like a comforting hug on a plate. For those craving hearty sandwiches, the CHIPOTLE CRISPY CHICKEN SANDWICH and the indulgent PHILLY CHEESESTEAK offer robust flavors and satisfying textures, perfectly paired with a cold drink from their carefully curated bar.

Speaking of drinks, Black Bear Tavern’s beverage selection is just as thoughtfully crafted. Refreshing cocktails like the Bacon Smokey Old Fashioned and fruity Sangria stand out, while local craft beers—including a highly praised Coos Dooryard IPA and a surprising blueberry beer—enhance the experience with local flair. Customer reviews rave about the cold beer kept perfectly chilled, and the attentive, friendly service that turns first-time visitors into regulars.

Beyond the kitchen and bar, Black Bear Tavern’s inn and RV park add significant value for travelers exploring northern New Hampshire. The RV site, praised for its cleanliness, quiet atmosphere, and full hook-ups, offers an affordable and comfortable option at just $50 per night. Guests love the spacious accommodations and the easy access to the tavern’s hearty meals and cold drinks just steps away. The inn provides a welcoming retreat after a day of exploring the charming town of Colebrook, which boasts plenty of shops and local attractions to discover.

Visitors describe Black Bear Tavern as surprisingly spacious and bustling, especially on weekends, yet it manages to avoid feeling crowded or impersonal. The vibe is lively but relaxed—perfect for gathering with friends to watch a game or savoring a quiet meal with family. The staff is consistently praised for their warm hospitality and attentive service, with servers like “Scooby” leaving a lasting impression for their professionalism and charm.

Whether you’re a local looking for a dependable spot to enjoy familiar favorites or a traveler seeking a true taste of New England’s culinary and hospitality spirit, Black Bear Tavern offers an experience worth savoring. Great place and surprisingly bigger than expected, was fairly busy on a Saturday noon. Plenty of menu options , and the local Coos Dooryard IPA rivals our Maine IPAs.

I enjoy the food here but was told that it was priced for tourists and we usually spend twice as much to eat here as anywhere else; sometimes it’s nice to go where everybody knows your name.

Excellent service, food delicious, best coleslaw ever tasted served with huge fish and chips, whiskey burger, chili was great also. Beer cold. Stayed in their RV site with full hook ups, only $50 quiet, clean and plenty of room. Town is very cute with more than enough stores to explore.

Absolutely amazing! Utterly fantastic food, drinks, and service. Our server "Scooby" was a delight. I ordered the Bison burger rare. And a special cocktail Bacon Smokey Old Fashioned. A must for anyone looking for a memorable experience.
